2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD in Kipling, SK
The GMC Sierra 3500HD can pull titanic loads, but these workhorses clean up well. There are some exciting upgrades for 2024, coupled with the existing features of the Sierra, making it a class leader.
Notable Changes From the Previous Year
The GMC 3500 gets a bit of a refresh for 2024. There’s a revised powertrain that ups the horsepower and adds to the already enormous towing capability. The Sierra also gets a refreshed front fascia, LED head and tail lights and sequential turn signals.
The 6.6-litre Duramax V8 turbo engine has had its horsepower upped to 470 with 975 lb-ft torque, pushing the towing capacity up to a maximum of 16,329 with a gooseneck. The transmission has also been changed with the introduction of the Allison 10-speed automatic, which was exclusive to the diesel engine in the past.
The Denali Ultimate trim adds a luxury to the lineup. In this trim, there are many luxurious features, such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel and leather-wrapped door panels and handles on the A and B pillars. The front seats have 16-way power adjustments, along with heating and cooling and an embroidered topographic map of Mount Denali.
The towing ability of the Sierra has new trailer management technology, with adaptive cruise control with trailering, gross combination weight alerts, and Transparent Trailer View, which works with the gooseneck and fifth-wheel towing.
The driver assistance technology has also been revised for 2024.

Infotainment and Technology
The Sierra comes with a standard touchscreen that runs the infotainment system, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard features. All models have rotary knobs and physical buttons that also manage the systems. This is very useful for the busy trucker who is wearing gloves. Another useful option is an app that allows you to control the trailer functions remotely, while the Sierra’s infotainment system allows drivers to store different profiles for their trailers to monitor maintenance.
Most trims have an 8-inch screen and several USB charging ports, but upgraded sizes are options that include navigation, a Bose audio system, Sirius XM Satellite radio, and entertainment systems for the rear seat passengers. One option is a huge 13.4-inch touchscreen that comes with Google Built-in, split-screen navigation, and wireless smartphone integration.
The driver’s customizable information panel is housed on a 12.3-inch digital display that shows vehicle information as well as infotainment content.
Exterior Design
The Sierra has an imposing stance, a wide body and a rugged, muscular appeal. Alongside the imposing grille are new LED projector headlights and daily running lights.
There are options in terms of the load body, with standard and long cargo boxes available. The load box has built-in steps on each side and steps at the corner of the rear bumper. The box can be accessorized with LED lighting, adjustable tie-down points, and a 120-volt outlet.
The tailgate is multi-functional and has six different positions, including a working surface and a bench.
Interior Comfort and Cargo Space
Soft-touch materials are used extensively. The Denali and Denali Ultimate both offer trims in leather, Palado wood, and chrome with a suede headliner.
The Sierra 3500 has class-leading cargo capacity and towing ability that depends on the trim and engine selected. The maximum conventional towing capacity is 9,071 kilograms; using a fifth wheel increases this to 14,505 kilograms, and with a gooseneck, it goes up again to 16,329 kilograms. The cargo capacity is a maximum of 3,376 kilograms.
Performance Features (Engine type, Horsepower, Torque)
The Sierra comes with an option of two gas-powered motors. The 6.6-litre V8 generates 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a Duramax 6.6-litre V8 that cranks out 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. Both of these motors are paired with the Allison 10-speed automatic transmission for both two and four-wheel drive.
Safety and Driver Assistance Features
The Sierra has its full complement of driver assistance technology. This includes a following distance indicator, emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear vision camera, lane changing alerts with blind side monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, tire pressure monitoring and teen controls.
A Great Truck For A Million Kilos or More
For anyone looking for a tough, reliable truck that will run for a million kilometres or more with proper maintenance, the Sierra is the only pick. With great features, good looks, and unrivalled towing ability, this truck will be a faithful companion for many years.
