2024 GMC SIERRA 2500HD Overview
The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD and carrying heavy loads go together like coffee and chocolate. This super capable large rig will carry titanic loads and tow over eight tons. Notable Changes From the Previous Year
This mighty truck gets a few visual refreshments, LED lights, and improvements in the cabin. There are two changes in the drivetrains:
- The diesel 6.6-litre Duramax V8’s horsepower is upped to 470 and the torque to 975 lb-ft.
- The gas 6.6-litre V8 has a new Allison-certified ten-speed automatic transmission.
The Denali Ultimate trim is new with increased levels of luxury and includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, door panels, and A and B-pillar handles. The heated, cooled and massaging front seats have 16-way adjustments with an embroidered image of Mount Denali.
The trailer technology has been improved and includes adaptive cruise control with trailer management and a gross combination weight alert. The existing GM Trailer View has been made compatible with the gooseneck and fifth-wheel hitches.

Infotainment and Technology Features
All trims have a touchscreen entertainment system, with the size of the screen dependent on the trim level from 7.0-inch at the bottom to a 13.4-inch screen in the Denali. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth connectivity are standard across the range, with the option of wireless at the top end. The sound system is again dependent on the trim from a six-speaker system in the entry-level trims to the Bose 12-speaker premium system in the Denali. The high-end trims also offer Sirius XM radio, navigation and rear-seat entertainment.
GMC has a trailer app that is an option for remote control of the trailer functionality. The infotainment system can also be used to store different trailer profiles.
Exterior Design
The Sierra 2500 has a muscular, rugged silhouette with bold design features. The large, imposing grille sets off a chunky front end that’s graced with animated LED headlights, giving a unique signature. The strong lines continue along the length of the vehicle and terminate in a multi-functional tailgate bracketed by bold LED taillights. The truck can be fitted with 17 or 20-inch wheels.
Steps are built into the sides of the cargo beds and at the corner of the rear bumper. LED lights, moveable tie-down points and 120-volt outlets can all be added as options.
Interior Comfort and Cargo Space
The interior of the Sierra 2500 is as comfortable and well-appointed as the exterior is rugged. The dashboard is huge and contains all the switchgear, which is large and easy to use, even when wearing gloves. The front seats are in bench format, but this can be changed to bucket seats with a centre console. The trims at the entry level of the lineup are spartan in their interior as benefits a no-nonsense workhorse, but as the trim levels increase, so does the luxury of the interior until in the Denali, you find a leather-wrapped steering wheel and door pillars, Paldao wood trimming and micro-suede for a headliner.
Performance Features (Engine Type, Horsepower, Torque)
There are two options for engines for 2024. All are paired with an Allison-approved ten-speed automatic transmission.
- A 6.6-litre V8 gas engine making 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque.
- A 6.6-litre Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 engine, making 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque
The diesel motor also has the option of including a power take-off in the PRO and SLE trims.
Safety and Driver Assistance Features
The Sierra 2500 comes with many safety features, such as emergency braking with pedestrian identification, forward collision alerts, adaptive cruise control and lane departure assistance. There’s also a comprehensive range of trailer management and monitoring assistance.
