2024 Buick Encore GX in Kipling, SK
The Buick Encore is the smallest of the Buick SUV line-up. Buick hopes the Encore GX will appeal to a younger set of buyers who are looking for a premium look at a less-than-premium price.
Notable Changes From the Previous Year
Buick has given the Encore GX a styling makeover for 2024, giving it a fresh and appealing look. Designers have given the Encore GX Buick’s new tri-shield logo on the hood, sleek exterior lights, new wheel designs, a redesigned grille, and a new shape for the bumpers at the front and rear.
Inside, the Encore GX scores several upmarket features. The infotainment system runs on an 11-inch touchscreen, and the driver gets an 8-inch customizable, dashboard display. Both screens are mounted behind a single 19-inch glass screen, tilted toward the driver, giving a cockpit feel to the interior. Smartphone integration is wireless, and a wireless charging pad is available as an option.
The Sport Touring variant comes dressed in black aluminum wheels, a glossy black grille, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. At the top of the line, you find the Avenir variant, which dresses formally in exclusive exterior trims, leather 10-way power-adjusted front seats with embroidered Avenir logos on the headrests, and comes with an air ionizer.
Trims
The Encore GX comes in three trims for 2024.
Preferred | AWD | $34,473* |
Sport Touring | AWD | $36,123* |
Avenir | AWD | $39,403* |
Infotainment and Technology
The infotainment system in the Encore GX is stylish behind its curved glass panel. The infotainment system is on an 11-inch touchscreen. Android Auto and Apple Carplay are both wireless and a standard feature, alongside a Wi-Fi hotspot, but the wireless charging pad is an optional extra.
Exterior Design
This small SUV packs a glamorous punch with its aerodynamic styling, large grille, and tapered headlights. On the Avenir and Sport Touring, these headlights are LED lights. The Encore GX is also the first Buick to have the new logo of three stylised shields.
The car is still a four-door SUV, but the rear end has been slightly tapered, and new taillights carry the glamour look all the way to the rear. Again, these lights are LEDs on the Avenir and Sport touring.
Interior Comfort and Cargo Space
The interior of the Encore GX is comfortable and has touches of luxury. The Avenir, as befits its top-of-the-line status, has leather seats that have the Avenir logo embroidered into the headrest. The Sport Touring has leatherette seat coverings, and the Preferred has cloth with leather trim for the seats. The rear seats have a 60/40 split and offer generous amounts of leg and headroom.
There is single-zone climate control for the Preferred and Sport Touring, while the Avenir gets dual-zone climate control. The Sport Touring gets a powered tailgate, which is an option on the Preferred.
The cargo space in the Encore GX is generous. There’s 1,422 litres of space if you drop the rear seats flat.
Performance Features (Engine type, Horsepower, Torque)
The Encore GX comes with a 1.3-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine fitted with stop/start technology. This engine makes 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft torque. In the all-wheel drive models, this engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Preferred trim is offered in front-wheel-drive, and in this variant, the front wheels are driven via a continuous variable transmission (CVT).
Fuel consumption for the Encore GX is set at 8.0 L/100 km (city) and 7.6 L/100 km (highway) for the front-wheel-drive Preferred. Moving to an all-wheel-drive trim will push the consumption up to 9.1 L/100km (city) and 8.4 L/100 km (highway).
Safety and Driver Assistance Features
In 2023, the Encore GX was granted a Top Safety Pick from IIHS. The Encore GX is structurally very safe, housing a full set of driver assistance features.
All trims come with a forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, which applies the brakes if it detects a possible collision. Also included is lane-keeping assistance with lane departure warnings, rear cross-traffic alerts, following-distance indicators, tire pressure monitoring, and auto-high beam headlights. Other driver assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control, external cameras, and parking sensors, are optional extras on all trims.
Safety, Comfort, and Style in a Compact Package
This small SUV combines a comfortable cabin with great road manners. All of Buick’s hallmarks of luxurious materials and outstanding safety features are standard, with modern technology and a competitive price sweetening the deal. Come into McMillan Motor and test drive the new Encore GX.
